LAUGHTER, MUSIC AND THE BEST IN WELSH CULTURE

-

TOP Welsh performers including Bryn Fôn, Kizzy Crawford, Geraint Jarman and comedian Tudur Owen will headline a week of alternative entertainment, organised by language campaigners, at Penrhos Farm in Bodedern, during the Eisteddfod on Ynys Môn this August.

As well as the gigs, which will showcase big names from the island and beyond, Cymdeithas yr Iaith has organised a campsite on the farm, which is less than a mile from the Eisteddfod field.

Among the local artists who will perform will be ‘Can i Gymru’ winners Cordia and Meinir Gwilym. Brodyr, a local band from the nineties, will reunite to perform alongside rock legend Geraint Jarman to finish off the feast of music on the closing Saturday night.

Rhys Llwyd, the organiser of language group Cymdeithas yr Iaith’s week-long celebration of the Welsh language music scene commented: “We’re massively excited about the line-up and looking forward to the public joining us to enjoy the week.

“Our hope with our annual events during the Eisteddfod is to work with and strengthen the local community. It’s a pleasure to announce that we will be working with the young farmers on the island who will be running the bar through the week, raising money for their important work.”

“Welcoming us for the week will be Iwan Penrhos and his family, one of Bodedern’s characters who’s familiar to many as one of the contestants on Fferm Ffactor, and an enthusiastic campaigner for the milk industry, after his recent appearance on the TV series Milk Man.”

“People who want to book tickets or reserve a place on our campsite can go to our website - cymdeithas.cymru/steddfod.”

On the opening Saturday night, August 5, Ynys Môn Young Farmers will present Bryn Fôn and his band. He will be supported by two young local bands, Calfari and Y Chwedlau, as well as Sophie Jayne who competed in ‘Cân i Gymru’ this year, and Dilys DJ.

Then, on the Sunday night, prepare to cry with laughter, with an evening of stand-up comedy with Tudur Owen, Beth Angell, Eilir Jones, Hywel Pitts and DJ Dyl Mei.

On Monday, August 7, the incredible Candelas will join bands from the west of Wales, Ysgol Sul and Cpt Smith, and DJ Branwen for an evening jointly organised by record label Ikaching.

The biggest poetry slam of the year ‘Bragdy’r Beirdd’ will fill the farm’s auditorium on the Tuesday night - with some of the scene’s most popular performers.

Wednesday night, will be feature acts from Ynys Môn - ‘Noson Gwlad y Medra’. Beginning with Cordia, the women who swept to victory in ‘Cân i Gymru’ last year with their amazing harmonies. Then breakthrough act, Panda Fight, will be followed by Meinir Gwilym and her band to close the evening, performing her new album ‘Llwybrau’ along with some of her classic hits.

There will be a more relaxed feel on the Thursday night with a ‘Free Wales’ quiz in the converted barn on the farm.

To excite the crowd on the Friday night, there will be a magical evening in the company of Steve Eaves, Kizzy Crawford, Lowri Evans, and the young band from the island, Brodyr Magee.

Capping off the week-long extravaganza, the legendary Geraint Jarman will be performing as well as Bob Delyn a’r Ebillion, Gai Toms, who will be launching his new album ‘Gwalia’ and local nineties favourites Brodyr.
