Hotspur sign off their league season in style
HOLYHEAD Hotspur rounded off their Huws Gray Alliance campaign with a cracking 4-2 victory at Caersws last Saturday, reports Gareth Davies.
A quick start by both sides saw Hotspur’s Paul Pritchard save low down from Luke K Evans while at the other end Alex Jones’s header was deflected for a corner.
In the 18th minute Holyhead’s Mel McGinness almost made something out of nothing, hitting the far stick after fine work on the right.
Hotspur went ahead on 28 minutes when Jack Griffiths made an excellent break from his own half into the penalty area, a great pass setting up Brendun Hogan to score.
Ten minutes later the hosts equalised with good linking play on the right which eventually saw Graham Evans’s cross to the far post finding the lurking Luke K Evans, who rifled past Pritchard.
Within the blink on an eye Hotspur were in the lead again. Kenleigh Owen quickly found McGinness, who skipped past the defence to hammer home past a startled Evans.
Three minutes later McGinness lobbed just over, while a Griffiths header soon after went close.
Sean Evans shot over for Caersws a minute after the restart, then at the other end Dewi Thomas broke down the right and fed McGinness, who drilled just wide.
There were then appeals by both sides for penalties just on the hour, but on 66 minutes the hosts drew level with a goal that looked suspiciously offside as Elliot Jones converted Sean Evans’s low cross from the left.
In the 72nd minute McGinness passed to Dean Garmey, whose effort was well struck but Evans concocted a fine save to his right.
However, on 78 Hotspur were in front again as Thomas broke free and had a shot at goal which was saved by Evans, but the ball ran loose to Griffiths coming in from the right who fired home.
On 84 minutes that man McGinness was brought down in the penalty area following Owen’s long ball downfield and Thomas made no mistake from the spot for a well deserved three points.
