LLANDEGFAN FC SUFFER FOUL PLAY
Football club struck by vandal attack
VOLUNTEERS at an Anglesey football club are appealing for help after being targeted by vandals.
In early April, officials at Llandegfan FC were shocked and saddened after the perpetrators, thought to be youths, smashed the windows and broke into the changing rooms and stole paint, using it on the exterior walls as well as breaking the goal posts.
Materials worth £500 which had been donated by local builder’s merchants, Huws Gray, which was intended to rebuild the dugouts, were also damaged in the raid.
This come despite efforts being underway to re-establish a team in the village, following the disbandment on Llandegfan Antelope FC three years ago.
Jordan Love, a former player who is behind the efforts to re-establish football in the village, said: “Llandegfan is a big village not to have a team, and it can be an important part of community life.
“We’d been fortunate enough to receive £500 worth of materials to start fixing up the ground, but this is a big setback.
“Hopefully we can salvage at least sections, but its very disappointing nonetheless.”
Carwyn Jones, who’s attended some of the meetings to restart the club, added: “There’s a move here to get the club back on its feet and efforts have been underway to get the ball rolling.
“Its disheartening this has happened, what’s supposed to be a good thing for Llandegfan and Llansadwrn.
“This won’t stop us though, we still want to see it through. There’s been a club here for years, the heart of the community.”
Despite the setback, the club is forging ahead with an open day in mid-May, aimed towards getting players, coaches and volunteers on board.
A senior team’s open day was held at Ysgol David Hughes, Menai Bridge, last night, followed by one for the juniors on Saturday May 6 at Ysgol Llandegfan starting at 11:30am.
Jordan added: “We’re looking for as much help as we can, be it from locals willing to help out or businesses who want to come on board and support us in any way they can.
“Anything would be a massive help.” For more information, visit www. facebook.com/LlandegfanFootballClub
