Looking forward to a fresh mission
THE Bishop of Bangor has announced the appointment of the Rev Dr Kevin Ellis, pictured, as Ministry Area Leader of the Bro Eleth Ministry Area.
Kevin will be leading the mission and ministry of the church community serving communities around Amlwch, Llanerchymedd and Moelfre, and is expected to start his new role in autumn.
He has been the Ministry Area Leader of Bro Cybi (Holy Island and Holyhead) for three years, and had previously ministered in the Diocese of Birmingham.
Looking forward to this new chapter in his ministry, Rev Ellis said: “In three years in Bro Cybi, I have come to appreciate that Anglesey is the island where the skies, sands and sea meet.
“It is a place where the stories of the saints are interwoven with the landscape.
“It has a been a pleasure to walk alongside the people and communities of Bro Cybi, and I am saddened to be leaving. During that time we have established a Messy Church congregation, begun work amongst teenagers, further embedded pastoral care by a committed team and tried new ways of worship.
“I will hold the Rev Jane Bailey (Assistant Priest), the ministry team, wardens, congregations and people of Bro Cybi in my prayers as Jennifer and I move on.
“In the midst of this sadness is the anticipation of what might happen as we walk with the different communities of Bro Eleth.
“I am excited by the challenge that lies ahead and look forward to living, learning and leading in a new context, as we seek to be God’s people together.”
Commenting on the new appointment, the Bishop of Bangor, the Rt Re Andy John, said: “I’m sure that for many people this new appointment will be unexpected. All of us are on a Christian pilgrimmage and journey and we know that Kevin’s journey is deeply rooted in prayer.
“Bro Cybi’s loss is very much Bro Eleth’s gain.
“I am confident that, under Kevin’s leadership – working with the Rev Pauline Jones and all of the ministry team – we will see Bro Eleth develop and flourish.”
