Gibbs decides to call it a day at Glantraeth

- Football: Welsh Alliance

THE man who led Glantraeth to the Welsh Alliance League double this season has stepped down as manager.

Warren Gibbs has resigned for personal reasons which meant he could not make the commitment he felt was needed next term.

Gibbs emphasised his decision has nothing to do with the club not being able to accept promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance and he has no plans to go into management elsewhere.

Club secretary Stan Strickland said: “The club are indebted to Warren for the tremendous success he has brought to Glantraeth during his three seasons in charge and the great spirit he created among the squad. The search for his replacement has already begun.”

The secretary revealed meetings with two potential candidates are planned, but if anyone else feels they have the necessary credentials and wishes to throw their hat in the ring to contact him on 07743 483733 or club chairman Gareth Evans on 07747 890497. Alternatively, a contact link is available on the club website.

Meanwhile, also leaving Glantraeth is goalkeeper Ben Heald, who is returning to former club Llanfairpwll.

Having previously played for Llanfair at reserve level and then the first team in the Cymru Alliance, Heald has also represented Holyhead Hotspur and Rhyl at the same standard.

Heald will be re-joining Llanfair as club captain and manager Steve Smith said: “Ben was the first player I wanted to sign when taking over as manager here last October. He had not long returned to Glantraeth, however, and being the loyal lad he is I knew I didn’t have a chance at that time and fair play he went on to help Glantraeth achieve a fantastic league and cup double.”
