JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT

- Eryl Crump

A THUG who beat a man to the ground and threatened to slit his throat next time they met is beginning a six-year jail sentence.

Alex Seymour punched Kieron Roberts and then kicked him repeatedly in the head and body as he lay on the pavement.

Seymour had in the past been in a relationship with one of Mr Roberts’ relatives.

When the pair ran into each other near a newsagents, Seymour began shouting threats while Mr Roberts stood in the queue.

The 32-year-old then followed his victim and once outside a bookmakers began to rain blows on him, shouting at him to get up as he kicked him.

Mr Roberts was in hospital on a high dependency unit for a week after the brutal assault, which happened on February 4 at 7am. At Caernarfon crown court, Judge Huw Rees told Seymour it was a “vicious and totally unnecessary assault in the street”.

He added: “It is something no member of the public should have to come across.”

Prosecutor Eleri Owen said the attack came as Mr Roberts was in the Chadwicks newsagents in Holyhead.

Mr Roberts insisted he had not set out that day to assault his victim and urged the judge to deal with him as leniently as his public duty allowed.

The judge ordered Seymour to have no contact, directly or indirectly with his victim for the next six years.
