City still struggling to find form on road

-

BANGOR City are still seeking their first victory on the road in the North Wales Coast Bowls League, after enduring a bleak 10-2 visit to Denbigh A, which plunged them down to 10th place in Division A’s 12-team rankings.

Being short of one bowler compounded City’s problems and they were left with just a couple of solo successes, by John Short at 21-14 and Jesse Buckland 21-20.

Beaumaris A were denied a home fixture with Colwyn Bay Legion, when their opponents reported being unable to raise a team.

Bethesda experienced a tense and frustrating tussle in Division B with visitors Llandudno A as the score-line became a 6-6 draw. Captain Ioan Critchlow’s hosts shaded the games 6-4, but were in arrears at 170-177 points in the aggregates, so conceding the bonus, despite Derek Roberts’s fine 21-6. Elsewhere in Division B: Benllech 8 (Alwyn Parry 21-10) Dyserth 4; Llanfairpwll 10 (Glyn Roberts 21-4, Gwilym Roberts 21-6, Ellis Roberts 21-9) Beaumaris B 2 (Dave Mathias 21-12). In Division C, joint second-placed Holyhead maintained their impressive home form by winning for the fourth time, 9-3 against Sunny Rhyl, with Bob Cuthbertson at 21-7 and John Prosser 21-10 against his own brother Ricky.

Three single-figure feats contributed largely towards Llanfairpwll’s rousing 9-1 victory over visitors Conwy in the Welsh Counties’ Bowls League to strengthen their mid-table position.

Dylan Williams topped the solo list at 21-3, followed by John Evans on 21-4 and Dion Owen at 21-8, as the villagers piled up best-so-far aggregates of 165-95 points.

Beaumaris’ home fixture with Wrexham side Cunliffes was called off early because of water-logging at the Castle green.

Two teams, Beaumaris and reigning champions Llangefni, are looking strong contenders for honours already in the Anglesey/Bangor and District Picture: Richard Birch Bowls League’s Monday Division. Ahead in the rankings by four points – 55 to 51 – Beaumaris dominated 9-1 at Caernarfon, where grandson and grandfather Jake and Derek Stanley produced matching 21-5 cards.

They were backed up by Robin Davies on 21-8.

Llangefni made it 7-3 over Holyhead, thanks mainly to Chris Taylor’s 21-9 and in the pairs Will Jones and Emyr Owen also 21-9.

Benllech beat Criccieth 8-2, with David Myerscough at 21-6, while Bangor City were convincing at 8-2 over Academi Llanfair, Gwerydd Buckland 21-5.

Llanfairpwll edged a 6-4 result at Menai Bridge, Barry Wynne on 21-4.
