Llandegai look set to secure a promotion lift

-

MYNYDD Llandegai look set to secure promotion to Welsh Alliance League Division One.

Despite finishing runners-up in Division Two last season, Mynydd could benefit from Abergele Town’s expulsion from the league. and Llandudno Junction’s elevation to the Huws Gray Alliance.

Both Gele and Prestatyn Sports were voted out of the Welsh Alliance by member clubs on a ballot at a meeting in Llanfairfechan after failing to meet the specified ground criteria.

That means at present only Glan Conwy will be relegated from Division One, Llanrwst United gaining a possible reprieve, with Llandudno Albion and Mynydd Llandegai promoted to the top flight to restore the membership to 16 teams.

Abergele, who were in Division One last season, and Division Two Sports have both appealed against their departures, but no hearing dates are yet confirmed.

Llandegai grabbed second spot in Division Two last season after winning their final 10 matches on the bounce. Division One would be the highest level the club has played at.

Bodedern Athletic and Llannefydd are promoted to the Welsh Alliance after winning the Gwynedd and Vale of Clwyd and Conwy league titles respectively.

Boded clinched the Gwynedd crown in their final match of the campaign, winning 4-0 at Menai Bridge Tigers.

A decision on Gwalchmai’s application to re-join the league was deferred until the other promotion contenders are known.

After taking a season out of football, Gwalch will be managed on their return by Martin Jones. He will be assisted by Gafyn Jones and Gerallt Jones.

Llandudno Junction, runners-up in Division One, have been promoted to the Huws Gray Alliance for the first time after WAL champions Glantraeth decided not to go up.

Conwy Borough are relegated to the Welsh Alliance from the HGA.

Meanwhile, Llandudno Albion’s promotion-winning season at the first attempt got even better when they won the Division Two Fair Play Award for the lowest amount of combined sendings off and cautions.

Division One’s Fair Play accolade went to St Asaph. Winners of the Fair Play awards receive £1,000 from the FAW.
