Wooden pylon plan

-

A PLANNING bid has been submitted to reinforce the electricity network on Anglesey.

SP Energy Networks is planning to construct 850 metres of new wooden pole 132,000 volt power line, from the area east of Valley across the A55 to the north of Caergeiliog, as well as 650 metres of underground cables, connecting to Caergeiliog grid substation in Cymyran Road.

The project will also see a new transformer installed on the existing substation site. At the same time, SP Energy Network’s plans will see 340 metres of existing lines removed, and seven wooden poles taken out.

Mark Sobczak, Head of 132kV Programmes at SP Energy Networks, said: “As well as strengthening the existing network in Anglesey, our upgrade plans will support new connections and local generation projects.

“There is currently approximately 80MW of local power generation connected to the network with a further 83MW contracted. The level of generation enquiries and connections remains high and is anticipated to increase.

“This project will ensure that future growth in Anglesey can be supported.”

The planning application for the project has been submitted to Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

If successful, SP Energy Networks aims to start work towards the end of this year and complete by the Spring of 2019.
