Bangor Gymnastics Club lands a Gold award for disability services

-

BANGOR Gymnastics Club has landed a top accolade for its work with the disabled.

It has become the first sports club in Gwynedd and only gymnastics club in North Wales to receive a Gold Insport award.

The Gold Insport is a top disability award given to Bangor Gymnastics Club for its inclusive, quality sessions for disabled people within its community.

The club, which was founded in 1981 with just 20 members, but now has more than 700 on its books, has moved into its own, purpose-built facility with the largest foam pit in North Wales.

As a not-for-profit organisation, the club paid for the new gym itself through fundraising events, and this facility will allow them to facilitate additional disability classes and have special educational needs schools attend weekly sessions.

Insport awards are presented by Disability Sport Wales to sporting clubs which seek to support the wider physical activity sector in planning for, delivering, and embedding inclusion within their everyday business, creating an inclusive environment for the whole spectrum of involvement for disabled people.

The awards come in four standards - Ribbon, Bronze, Silver and Gold.

To achieve Gold level, a club must provide the highest quality provision for people with disabilities, and Bangor tick all the boxes.
