Bangor aim to remain at top

BANGOR will look to consolidat­e top spot in the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division this Saturday when they host Hawarden Park.

The Citizens hit the summit last weekend after they capitalise­d on Menai Bridge’s first loss of the season with a 12-3 triumph at Gresford.

Bangor were invited to bat in a game cut to 43 overs per side due to rain and set 168-5, Sion Evans (44) and David Winter (25) putting on 71 for the first wicket.

Nadeem Rehman added 37 and skipper Robbie Marshall 23 not out.

Bangor’s ace all-rounder Francois Mostert was out for a duck when batting, but there was no stopping him with the ball.

The Springbok claimed 5-16 off nine overs as Gresford were bowled out for 109. Chris Dawson picked up 2-9 and Rehman 2-33.

Menai Bridge had won their first seven, but that run came to an end when champions Llandudno took the honours at Tyn-y-Caeau.

In a rain-reduced encounter, Llandudno posted 144-7 off their allotted 22 overs.

Skipper Dion Holden took 3-39 and Gerallt Roberts 2-26.

In response, the Anglesey side were restricted to 121-8, Gethin Roberts 32, Dan Evans taking 3-25 and Jack Rimmington 2-23 in an 11-4 Tudno victory.

Bridge will aim to bounce back at bottom side Mochdre this Saturday.

In the 1st XI Second Division, Bodedern picked up a great eightwicke­t win at Ruthin.

After winning the toss, the Anglesey side put the hosts in and bowled them out for 133, Ryan Taylor grab- Pictures: Richard Birch bing 4-26 and Dewi Hood 3-25.

Boded hit back strongly with 135-2 off 28.4 overs, Gareth Thomas (62 not out) and Edward Gadsby (46 no off 42 balls) putting on an unbroken 80 for the third wicket to seal a 14-1 outcome.

Chris Dawson struck an unbeaten 98 as Bangor coasted to an eightwicke­t victory at Carmel & District in the Sunday XI Third Division.

Peter Jones added 40 not out as the citizens set 184-1 and then limited the hosts to 109-9, Bethan Hughes 3-7, Subhan Khan 3-21 and Aidan Kelly 2-20.

Menai Bridge pipped Mochdre by just three runs, 121 all out playing 118, Ethan Andrews 3-18 for the hosts in their 11-4 decision.

1st XI First Division - Bethesda v Mold; 2nd XI Premier Division - Denbigh v Menai Bridge.
