Bridge and Citizens still ruling the roost
MENAI Bridge and Bangor continue to rule the roost in the North Wales League Premier Division after both recorded big wins last weekend.
Dion Holden played a captain’s innings to lead Bridge back to the summit with a nine-wicket victory at bottom side Mochdre.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat, but were sent packing for a paltry 111 off 34.3 overs, Gerallt Roberts scooping 3-26 for the islanders, Zachary Ringrose 2-13, Holden and Dion Owen both 2-17.
Holden then struck an unbeaten 66, which included 12 fours, and shared in an opening stand of 78 with Jack Gower (31).
Bridge made it to 114-1 from 30.2 overs to seal a 14-1 success.
Bangor lost top spot but are just a point behind the Bridge after beating Hawarden Park 13-2 at Ty Newydd.
Spinner Gareth Edwards was the star man with 5-9 off eight overs as Park, who chose to take first knock, were bowled out for just 82.
Francois Mostert picked up 2-10 off six overs and Andy Williams 2-29.
Bangor lost two early wickets in response, but reached the winning post with comfort, getting to 85-3 off 24.4 overs, Mostert hitting 36 not out and Nadeem Rehman 24.
This Saturday sees Menai Bridge host Connah’s Quay, while Bangor visit a St Asaph side boasting a 100% home record so far.
Bethesda romped to a 14-1 victory at Carmel in Division One.
Pesda put the hosts into bat and sent them packing for just 99, Carwyn Williams claiming 4-23 off 11 overs, Sean Buchanan 3-33 and Michael Jennings 2-14.
Williams then completed a great match with 60 not out as Bethesda reached 101-1 in just 22.1 overs.
Menai Bridge whipped Pontblyddyn by 10 wickets in the 2nd XI Premier Division.
Pont set 117-8, Doug Searle the key Bridge bowler with 5-31 off 9.4 overs.
Menai then coasted to 118-0 for a Picture: Richard Birch 15-0 verdict, Paul Lucas 55 not out and Cefyn Owen 52no.
Bangor are top of the 2nd XI West Division after a 12-run success at Caernarfon.
The Citizens set a modest 114-8, their top six all perishing for single figures before Jamie Camilleri (27) and Saif Ijaz (22no) saved the day.
Aiden Kelly (5-8 off nine overs) and Marc Jones (3-32) then ensured the Cofis were bowled out for 102.
