Title hopefuls set to face off

THE match of the season in the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division is on the a agenda this Saturday when leaders Bangor host second-placed Menai Bridge.

Bangor returned to the summit la last Saturday with a comfortabl­e win at St Asaph, while Bridge were involved in a storming tie at home to Connah’s Quay.

Menai were put into bat and ended up all out for 251 off 50 overs, former skipper Robbie Jones cracking 62, current captain Dion Holden hitting 50, Danny Creek 39 and Gethin Long 33.

Holden and Creek put on 88 for the second wicket, before Jones and Long added 89 for the fifth.

South African Brendan Bezuidenho­ut took 5-48 for the visitors.

Quay’s star batsman David Fox then hit 66 as the Deesiders chased their target of 252 with real vigour.

However, Menai remained favourites until tail-enders Darren Leach (42) and Lee Davies (32) put the Quay right back in it.

Two balls remained and the travellers needed one to win, but Zachary Ringrose bowled skipper Leach and Quay were also 251 all out.

Holden scooped 4-52 and Ringrose 3-61, the points being shared eight apiece.

Bangor regained top spot with an emphatic seven-wicket win at St Asaph.

Spinner Nadeem Rehman caused havoc with a spell of 6-17 off 12 overs as Saints, who opted to bat first, were rolled over for just 100.

Bangor then took just 16.4 overs to reach 101-3 and inflict a first home loss this term on Asaph.

Francois Mostert top-scored with 35, David Winter adding 25 as the Citizens enjoyed a 13-2 victory.

Bethesda caused a big upset in 1st XI Division One as they defeated leaders Pwllheli by six runs.

Pesda posted 225-8 off their 50 overs, Michael Jennings striking an unbeaten 83, captain Nicholas Parry 56 and Carwyn L Williams 32.

Williams then grabbed 3-40 and Gareth V Edwards 3-49 as Pwll were dismissed for 219, Morgan MurrayWill­iams making 87. Points: 11-4.

Bodedern crashed 15-0 at Halkyn in the 1st XI Second Division.

The home side chalked up 228-5, Jordan Taylor nabbing 2-43 and Iwan Backhouse 2-47 for the Anglesey team.

Boded were then demolished for just 82, and it would have been a lot worse but for a spirited 45 off 37 deliveries from Edward Gadsby.
