WEDDING WAS NEARLY RUINED

BRIDE IN TEARS AS FIRM FAILED TO DELIVER FOR WESTERN-THEMED DAY

- Mari Jones

A COUPLE’S wedding turned into a “shambles” when a marquee company failed to deliver.

Bride Emily Kelly was left in tears frantically trying to find a replacement for her Westernthemed wedding which had taken two years to organise.

The 25-year-old had booked and paid for a marquee with Menai Bridge-based Anglesey Marquees last October.

But less than 24 hours before the big day Mrs Kelly had to find another one.

The firm has apologised and described the experience as “steep learning curve for the company”.

Care assistant Mrs Kelly had arranged for it to be delivered to Glan Conwy on Wednesday May 24 so family and friends would have time to decorate it in time for the wedding on the following Saturday.

“Wednesday came and there was no marquee, and no answer to my calls and emails,” said Mrs Kelly, of Abergwyngregyn, near Bangor.

“They eventually replied and said they’d be there next day at 6am.

“So all our family and friends turned up that time and again they didn’t turn up or answer our calls. In the afternoon we were then told by the company that the marquee had been stolen.”

She and husband-to-be Zak were then told by Jason Jones, who runs Anglesey Marquees, that they would find a replacement marquee and bring it at teatime on the Thursday.

But again no one turned up and calls from the by-now frantic couple were unanswered.

“Basically I cried from the Wednesday until the Saturday, I was so stressed out,” she said. “I kept on telling Jason that we were expecting 100 guests but it just seemed like we weren’t really that important. I think they had taken too much on with other jobs.”

On the Friday the marquee company said they would arrive between 1pm-2pm with a replacement, but she asked for a refund at around 1.45pm as she had lost all hope of them ever turning up. The money was then put back in their account.

“Tents and Events Marquees rescued us and we are very grateful to them, but it cost us more and the marquee was a lot smaller,” added Mrs Kelly.

“As things were such short notice we had to work through the night to decorate and build the dance floor etc.

“Even some of the guests had to help as it just wasn’t ready. To be honest it was a shambles.

“Although in the end it was a nice day it could have been a lot better.”

Mr Jones said he apologised “profusely” to the couple, adding: “I can understand the stress caused but we were on our way with a replacement marquee and we could have set it up quickly.

“I had told Emily and Zak that we couldn’t come on the Wednesday as we had another big job on.

“It was out of our control that our lock-up got broken into and the marquee was stolen.

“I don’t have a crime number to prove that it was stolen as it wasn’t reported to the police at the time for reasons I don’t wish to reveal.”

Mr Jones said he didn’t return all the calls as the signal is “very bad in Anglesey”.
