Prolific hitman Thomas joins Harbourmen

-

ONE of the most prolific goalscorers Anglesey football has ever produced has joined his hometown club.

Asa Thomas signed for Gwynedd League newcomers Holyhead Town from Trearddur Bay United last week.

Thomas, 26, has scored more than 350 goals in his senior career, including a remarkable 112 in one season back in 2010/11 when playing for Trearddur Bay in the Anglesey League.

After beginning his career with the Bay in 2008/09, where he made his name over three and a half seasons as a prolific marksman, he had a stint with Holyhead Hotspur before joining newly-formed Morawelon in 2012/13.

The goals kept flowing as he hit 97 over two campaigns for the now-defunct Holyhead side, who lifted the NWCFA Junior Cup.

In 2014/15, Thomas signed for Gaerwen, bagging 22 goals before returning to Trearddur Bay the following season.

It was another great campaign for the striker who scored 48 times as Bay were crowned 2015/16 Welsh Alliance League Division One champions.

Thomas split last season between a second spell at Hotspur and Trearddur, whom he initially committed to this summer, but has now decided to join the Holyhead Town revolution.

The Harbourmen returned to winter football last season and won an Anglesey League treble, finishing top of the table as well as lifting the Lucas Oil and Megan Cups under manager Craig Brodie.

There is Thomas family history with Town, as Asa’s dad Jimmy was once a star player with the club.

Ambitious Town have further strengthened their squad this summer with the acquisition of talented trio Luke Roberts, Ryan Lees and Ian Williams.

Roberts is a commanding defender, Lees a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder and Williams, a highly-rated performer in island football for numerous years, and the brother of ex-Shrewsbury Town striker Mark, who went on to manage Holyhead Hotspur and Trearddur Bay.
