Drivers left stranded in Asda fuel blunder
DRIVERS were left stranded after a fuel blunder saw two Asda petrol pumps filled with diesel.
Many cars broke down shortly after leaving the filling station forecourt at its store in Llangefni.
Asda blamed the gaffe on “human error” and said the problem has been corrected and the petrol station is now operating as normal.
They said: “One tank at our Llangefni petrol station was filled with the incorrect fuel.
“Diesel was accidentally put into the wrong tank. This was an isolated incident caused by human error.
“There were two fuel pumps affected for around 10 minutes when the problem was identified and the pumps closed immediately.”
Apologising for the error, which was spotted shortly after 1pm on June 21, the store added: “We are incredibly sorry for any inconvenience this mistake has caused and urge anyone who thinks they may have been affected to contact us as soon as possible.”
They said they are in contact with a small number of customers already, but anyone who thinks they may be affected should call the Llangefni petrol station directly or the supermarket’s customer services line on 0800 952 0101.
Driver Robert Howe, whose car broke down within a few miles of leaving the garage, said: “When the AA came they couldn’t work out what was wrong because I was certain I’d filled it up with petrol.
“When they said I’d filled it with diesel I said, ‘That isn’t possible’.
“It was only after the AA was called out to several cars in an hour that they realised what had happened.
“I spoke to the Asda manager and they’ve admitted what’s happened.
“Someone is supposed to get in touch with me about compensation.”
