Live broadcast brings stars out
HARD-HITTING PLAY BEAMED INTO WELSH THEATRES
ACRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED play, set amid the American AIDS crisis of the 1980s will be screened in Colwyn Bay’s Theatr Colwyn this month.
On Thursday, July 20, National Theatre Live will present Angels In America: Part One, Millennium Approaches (15)
Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge, Silence) plays the lead role of Walter Prior in the production, which will be broadcast live from the National Theatre, London at 7pm.
The play, set in the Reagan administration era, shows New Yorkers grappling with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell.
Appearing alongside Garfield is Denise Gough (People, Places and Things), Nathan Lane (The Producers), James McArdle (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Russell Tovey (The Pass/Him and Her/Being Human).
Angels In America: Part One: Millennium Approaches was first performed at the National Theatre in 1992.
It was followed by Part Two: Perestroika the following year.
This new staging of Tony Kushner’s multiaward winning two-part play is directed by Olivier and Tony award-winning director Marianne Elliott (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and War Horse). It has received universal acclaim from critics. The second half of the story, Perestroika, will be shown at Theatr Colwyn, on Thursday, September 7 (encore screening).
