GOOD BEER HERE

-

REAL ale lovers will be pleased to hear the 45th edition of the Good Beer Guide is out.

And this year, it includes 20 new North Wales inns selling great beer – bringing the guide’s total to 88 pubs across the region.

Published by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the guide recommends the best pubs in Britain for ale drinkers through independent judgement and recommendations.

The book’s editor Roger Protz says: “It’s fantastic to see a continued growth in local brewing.

“The first edition of the Guide 45 years ago was a call to arms for beer lovers when the brewing industry was in dire trouble and the market flooded with tasteless, fizzy beer.

“How the beer world has changed. In spite of closures, a growing number of pubs clamber to offer the best possible range of real ales and we are still seeing remarkable growth in the brewing sector.

Here are all the new local pubs that have been added to this year’s list:

Olde Bull’s Head Inn, Castle Street, Beaumaris, LL58 8AA

The historic Olde Bull’s Head Inn, once visited by Charles Dickens and Samuel Johnson, was the original posting house for the borough. Each room is now named after a Dickens character.

The Grade II listed building which dates back as far as 1472 prides itself on its real ales and Welsh brews.

Earlier this year, the pub invested £200,000 to create the Coach, Kitchen and Garden restaurant. In 2011, it was awarded the Pub of the Year Award.

Castle Court Hotel, Castle Square, Beaumaris, LL58 8DA

Opposite Beaumaris Castle, the hotel - formerly the White Lion Hotel - has been recently renovated by its current owners.

There is a beer garden to the back of the building but on a summer’s day, the courtyard outside the main door is an alfresco sitting area. Alongside the permanent ales is one guest beer from a small independent brewery.

Tyn-y-Coed Inn, Holyhead Road, Capel Curig LL24 0EE

Tyn-y-Coed Inn, situated in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park has three cosy bar rooms - all with open fires - and is popular with walking enthusiasts.

They serve a wide range of ales and wines and the menu largely consists of Welsh produce. To mark its historic past on the coaching route, you will find a stagecoach in front of the entrance. Dogs are welcome here.
