Hughes and Owen on target in Trophy win

-

PENTRAETH left it late to reach the third round of the FAW Trophy with a 2-0 win at Blaenau Amateurs on Saturday.

Aled Hughes put the visitors ahead on 68 minutes, before Josh Owen added a second for Pentraeth 10 minutes before the end.

However there was no such progression for Holyhead Town, Amlwch, Bodedern Athletic, Aberffraw and Y Felinheli, who all tumbled out of the competition, with Llanfairpwll’s clash at Nantlle Vale postponed after the visitors were unable to raise a side.

Holyhead Town suffered an agonising extra time loss at Conwy Borough, losing 4-3 after the match finished level after 90 minutes.

A James Burgess strike little after the hour mark gave Amlwch a modicum of hope in their encounter at Llanberis, but goals from Tomos Collins and Rob Daniels put the home side through – Jack Jones putting them ahead with a 15th minute penalty and Ian Mansour adding a second before Burgess’ effort.

Boded went down to a 6-0 loss at Llanrug with goals from Shaun Phillips, Jonathan Sadler, Allan Mark Owen (2) and Luke Phillips (2).

Aberffraw also suffered extra time heartbreak as Chris Owen and Mike Jones both struck in the additional 30 minutes to see Prestatyn Sports move on to the third round.

Danny Mills and Ian Dunn had fired to give Sports a 2-0 lead before the half hour mark, before second half replies from Nathan Moore and Iwan Lloyd sent the game into the extra time.

Llanystumdwy were too much for Y Felinheli as they claimed a 4-3 win.

In Division Two of the Welsh Alliance, winless Cemaes Bay remained stuck to the bottom of the standings, losing 4-1 at home to Meliden.

Matthew Griff put the visitors ahead on 18 minutes while an own goal doubled their lead a minute before the break. Gareth Torr gave Bay some hope with a reply just before the hour mark, but further goals from James Cairns and Rob Wadley put the game out of sight.

Llannerchymedd are one place above Cemaes after losing 3-1 at home to Glan Conwy. Carl Stevens put the visitors ahead before Andrew Roberts notched a leveller for Llan.

However, a second half brace from Jamie Jones, one from the penalty spot, put the game to bed for the Conwy side.

A late Mike Edwards effort saw Holyhead Hotspur claimed all three points on Friday night in their top of the table Reserve Division clash at home with Llanberis.

Hotspur sit in third, level on points with second placed Llan, and are now only three points behind early leaders Prestatyn Town.

Tom Scott and Sion Davies put Hotspur ahead but two quick goals from Josh Hughes and Aaron Parry drew the visitors level, before Edwards’ 76th-minute winner.

Llangefni ran riot to ensure a 5-1 win at home over Llandudno Junction on Saturday to claim their second victory in the league this term.

James Nettleton put Junction ahead on 15 minutes but two goals before the break from Ross Mark and Cai Roberts saw mometum swing in the home side’s favour.

And second-half goals from Cameron Jones, Harry Galeotty and Osian Jones ensured the win.
