‘Corbyn could do with a wash and shave’

-

IN a controversial career spanning over 30 years, Roy “Chubby” Brown has managed to offend almost every minority group, women, and a whole bunch of celebrities.

Yet Brown’s loyal fan base ensures his shows across the country regularly sell out, despite being deemed sexist, racist and prejudice.

Banned in counties all over the UK due to his vulgar style of humour, the outspoken comedian will be coming to Rhyl in October.

Ahead of the gig, he told our sister paper the Daily Post: “I’ve always liked Rhyl, but Llandudno council won’t have me because I’m not PC and they’re all left-wingers. But you can bet they all come to Rhyl to see me.

“When you come to see me, you’re coming to a party. We shut the doors and have a party. If you don’t want to be there, don’t come in the room. Of course it’s controversial. There’s a lot of things that you can’t say now. It really annoys me that you can’t say this and you can’t say that. It’s codswallop.”

It’s clear that the change in attitudes over the years have not affected the outrageous content of his shows. In fact, political correctness seems to have encouraged him to push forward with his outspoken performance: “I’ve never toned down my act. I’ve been warned a few times about it and a few councils around the country won’t have us. But it’s ridiculous. I was going to Nottingham for around 35 years and then the new manager at the Theatre Royale said I’m not his type of comedian.

“I said: ‘If I’m not his type of comedian, then why do you have Sarah Millican on, or Jimmy Carr or Frankie Boyle? We do the same job. We are all controversial. So why are you banning me?’

“The Frank Carson days have gone. The Tommy Cooper days have gone. People are looking to be entertained. And the only way they are entertained these days is to be shocked. That’s why people come to see me. Nine times out of ten people agree with what you are saying.

“If I’m having a go at Jordan (Katie Price) because she’s putting herself about, or having a go at rappers for not being musically talented, people say ‘he’s right, he’s right’ – that’s all there is to it.”

The 72-year-old has hit back at critics who accuse him of being racist and homophobic, explaining that the word is a modern term that has been born along with the “PC Brigade”: “If people think I’m racist, you’ve got to understand, 30 years ago we hadn’t heard of this word ‘racist’.

“What it was is we were all in this together. I’m telling jokes about thin people, fat people, black people, white people, all people.

“To call someone racist because they tell a joke is an easy way out.

“It’s called playing the racist card. It’s the same with the gay card as well.

“Sometimes they say ‘ooooh he’s homophobic’ but the thing is, most of the people I knock about with in showbiz are gay. Where do you think comedians get their jokes from? They get them from people who are that way inclined.

“Gay people come up to me and say ‘oooooh have you heard this one?’ because they want to be part of it.

“When you’re not cracking jokes about someone, they feel left out. Nobody wants to be left out.

“It’s the left-wing brigade, they’re trying to stop people enjoying themselves. They’re the most miserable b******s that have ever walked.”

Obviously, we couldn’t interview Roy Chubby Brown (real name Roy Vasey) without discussing politics. When asked about Brexit, he didn’t hold back: “We should come out. They’ve been panicking about what we’re going to do when we leave, but what did we do for the 200 years before Brexit?

“Why should we go to work, pay our taxes for the money to go to other countries? We don’t mind in small doses but why should we be handing over half our wages to people who just can’t be bothered and want to come over here?

“Our health service is overloaded, our roads – you can’t go anywhere on our roads these days.

“The M62 is a car park. And that’s because we’re letting every Tom, Dick and Harry in here.

“I appreciate all of these Indian doctors that come here. And these Polish builders, they can build better than we can. But we can’t have everybody. You’ve got to have them in moderation.”

He isn’t keen on the current state of the Labour Party either. When asked about Jeremy Corbyn, he said: “I think he could do with a wash and shave to be honest with you. He needs to go home and have a think about what he wants and stop changing his mind. Everything the Government decides to do he just votes against it. “Just for once, he wants to get his house in order. He’s surrounded himself with idiots.

“I was a Labour man all my life. My father was a Labour man. We’re not posh people, we’re off council estates. We used to always think these Conservatives were up their own a***s. But at the minute, Labour is just not organised at all. They’re just employing d***h**** all the time.

“We live in a violent world. And when Jeremy Corbyn says he’s going to scrap the nuclear submarines, the army and navy are going to be downsized, we’re vulnerable then.

“It makes us vulnerable to these dozy b******* like this Kim Jong Un, that bloke from North Korea. He only has to send one of those rockets over here and how are we going to defend ourselves? You’ve got to build a barbed wire fence around yourself.

“Why do you think the Manchester bomb went off? It’s because these people are brainwashed. They let them in the country, they get here and they’re brainwashed. We can’t keep an eye on everybody.”

The comic also has a rather strong view on ex-PM Tony Blair: “Tony Blair should be hung. He got us into a war that we should not have been involved in. There’s 285 mothers in this country who lost their sons because of him. “It had nowt to do with us.” But when asked if he was planning on cracking some jokes about Wales, Brown assured that he had no intention of insulting the Welsh. He said: “I might be controversial, but I’m not stupid! Have you seen the size of these Welsh rugby players?

“They’ll kick me up the arse and it will be about three days before I come back down!”
