Michelin Stars for trio of top N.Wales restaurants

-

THREE North Wales restaurants have retained their Michelin Stars, making it into the prestigious UK Michelin Guide for another year.

The Tyddyn Llan in Llandrillo, Corwen, Sosban & The Old Butchers Restaurant on Anglesey and Ynyshir in Machynlleth kept hold of their coveted honours at the 2018 awards ceremony in London last week.

They are among only seven restaurants in Wales to hold such an accolade.

The Tyddyn Llan in Llandrillo, run by the award-winning chef Bryan Webb and his wife Susan, won its first Michelin star seven years ago and has kept it every year since.

It also retained its commanding position in the Good Food Guide for the 15th consecutive year last month.

Inspectors said the restaurant focuses “primarily on Welsh ingredients where possible” and “the dishes themselves tend to be quite classic in their conception and execution, providing visitors with a choice of familiar staples and fine-dining favourites.”

Speaking ahead of the awards ceremony, Mr Webb said: “The competition gets harder every year and there are always new kids on the block but Michelin is looking for the serving of good food consistently and I’ve always had a passion for doing that.”

Following the event, Mr Webb tweeted: “Congratulations to all the Welsh Michelin-starred restaurant on keeping their star for another year.”

Sosban & The Old Butchers Restaurant is run by husband and wife Stephen and Bethan Stevens in Menai Bridge.

The restaurant has gained a reputation for its surprise menu and excellent service since opening four years ago.

Creating dishes using the “best locally-sourced produce available”, Stephen and Bethan, who have scooped several local and national food awards, provide “a unique culinary journey not found anywhere else”, said inspectors.

Getting a table is not an easy task as foodies must wait until at least August next year to get a seat.

Ynyshir in Eglwys Fach, Machynl- leth, was the top Welsh entry in the Good Food Guide 2018.

The award was the icing on the cake for head chef Gareth Ward after the restaurant last month became the first in Wales to ever receive five AA rosettes.

Ynyshir, previously known as Yny- shir Hall, serves “alternative” BritishB iti h dishes with a Japanese twist, using local produce.

It received its first Michelin star in 2011, before Gareth secured his first star as head chef in 2014.

Since then, he has retained the accolade every year.

Th The firstfi t Mi Michelinh li guideid was pubb lished in 1911 to help motorists and gave recommendations for restaurants – as well as advice on how to change a tyre – and its prestige has grown over the years.

The full 2018 Guide is in bookshops now.
