-

TICKETS to see opera superstar Bryn Terfel in his first appearance at the theatre named after him have sold out in less than an hour.

All 486 seats for February’s concert at Theatr Bryn Terfel at the Pontio Arts Centre, Bangor, were snapped up after going on sale last week.

Pontio staff have opened a waiting list in case anyone who bought a ticket cannot make the concert.

A spokeswoman said: “People started gathering outside the door at about 8am and were in good humour waiting for the tickets to go on sale.

“Everyone who came along to Pontio to buy their tickets were able to do so and went away happy.”

Members of Sir Bryn’s official fan club, Y Terfeliaid, were among those w who got tickets.

One said: “I tried and failed to get a ticket for his last appearance in Gwynedd – I was just a few minutes too late getting to the ticket office in Criccieth.

“I’m really looking forward to the concert even though it is four months away.”

The bass-baritone was due to appear at Pontio at the Opening Gala in Octob ber 2014,2014 but this performance was cancelled because building work on the theatre was not complete.

Tickets for that show had sold out in just 15 minutes.

During the forthcoming concert, which will launch the Wales International Harp Festival IV, Sir Bryn and harpist Hannah Stone will give the first performance of Osian Ellis’ Cycle of Welsh Folk Songs.

Past students from Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias, finalists in the Urdd Bryn Terfel Scholarship, will be the supporting artists.
