Nant too strong

- Rugby: Division 1 North

BETHESDA drop to the foot of the Division One North table after going down to a 34-5 loss at home to Nant Conwy.

Pesda’s loss, coupled with a first win of the season for Colwyn Bay, sees the Gwynedd side – who are still without a win this capaign – move to the basement.

The derby matches between these two sides are usually the high point of the season for the two sets of supporters, who are usually treated to a feast of good, hard rugby, played in the right spirit. As usual, this game was no exceptionand lived up to its expectations.

Bethesda went ahead after 15 minutes as Huw Ogwen Jones touched down for an unconverted try, but that was as good as it got for the home side against a Nant outfit looking to wrestle the title away from defending champions Pwllheli.

Nant were penalised for not releasing in the tackle and a after quickly taken penalty found touch, Pesda took a quick line out, and good fast ball across the back line resulted in an excellent try.

Another quickly taken penalty, awarded this time to Nant for a high tackle, enabled the visiting side to win the lineout, and again a quick ball across the field securing the try in the right hand corner, Jack Moriarty going over with Arthur Lennon adding the extras.

On 27 minutes another infringement by Bethesda, this time in the ruck, saw Lennon slot over a penalty to give them a little breathing room at the interval at 10-5.

The second half was a much more open affair, with Bethesda on the one hand trying hard to equal the score and Nant extend their lead.

Four minutes in a lineout in the Bethesda 22, saw Nant capitalise on a Bethesda error to score the first of four second half tries, Cai Jones going over and Lennon converting.

By the final whistle three superbly taken tries from Lennon, Sion Pringle and Derwyn Williams one converted by Lennon ensured the win for the visitors.
