Man broke into church and defecated on stairs

-

A prolific Anglesey criminal stole a bottle of sherry from a shop before breaking into a church, stealing food and ‘soiling’ the stairs and then falling alseep.

David Valencia pleaded guilty to burgling the Capel Libanus in Benllech last weekend. He had stolen the alcohol from a nearby Spar shop earlier in the day.

The 68-year-old, who has recently been found a caravan to live in at Dinas Dinlle, had previously been offered help by the church. But he repaid their generosity by breaking into and bur- gling the chapel, District Judge Gwyn Jones told him as he sentenced him to six months in prison at Llandudno magistrates court last week.

His defence solicitor Glyn Roberts said Valencia, pictured, had little memory of what happened and hadn’t deliberately soiled the stairs.

After the sentence, Sergeant Emma Williams at Llangefni Police Station, said: “It is important the Criminal Justice System imposes strong sentences on those few intent on disrupting the lives of the vast majority of law abiding citizens.

“Valencia is a prolific offender and his sentence will I’m sure bring a degree of relief to many in the local community and particularly his victims.

“I welcome the sentence and hope it will provide the public with reassurance and make our communities safer.

“North Wales Police will relentlessly pursue those individuals who cause most harm and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
