Town boss in tribute to his table-toppers

-

LLANGEFNI Town are the new leaders of Welsh Alliance Division One after a Dan Thomas double secured a 2-1 victory at Llanrwst United, who led through Mike Lundstram.

Despite having Steve Kehoe, James Saxon, Harri Galleoti, Matthew Jones, Sean Pritchard, Gavin Sharpe and Craig Roberts all missing, Cefni did the business with centre-half Thomas making it five goals in three matches.

Town manager Chris Roberts said: “This is a great win for us. Having seven players missing, another start for 16 years-old Cameron Jones, two players playing while carrying knocks and myself and Tommo (assistant-manager Jason Thomas) on the bench and to come back from going a goal behind really shows the character of these lads – they never give up.”

Llanrug United celebrated a 3-1 verdict at Trearddur Bay (Ryan Jones). Liam Willighan and Alwyn Roberts (2) earned Mynydd Llandegai a 3-1 win at Pwllheli.

Conor Davies bagged a hat-trick as Division Two leaders Glan Conwy whipped Pentraeth 5-2 (Josh Owen, Dan Campbell). Late goals from Ian Dunn, James Harper and Ian Griffiths saw 10-man Prestatyn Sports see off Llannerchymedd 3-1 (Mike Hughes). James Burgess’ 90th-minute goal edged Amlwch Town a 5-4 thriller at Blaenau Amateurs, Luke McGivern, Tom Wood, Sam Carter and James McMinimee also on target.

Llanfairpwll lost 4-0 to Penmaenmawr Phoenix. Bodedern Athletic had Ricky Jones’ long-range screamer to thank for a 1-0 decision at Meliden.

Gruff John scored four and Iwan Edwards a hat-trick in Y Felinheli’s 11-0 annihilation of Cemaes Bay.
