Bangor on the up after double joy

-

FIFTH-PLACED Bangor will aim to make it three wins on the bounce in Division Two North when they host improving Rhyl this Saturday (2.30pm).

The Citizens kept up their good form with a hard-earned 32-25 success at Llangollen last weekend.

The hosts started brightly and after some good phases a nice offload from Gwyndaf Davies saw Danny Griffiths sprint in from 30 metres to score, centre Iestyn Hughes adding the extras.

Immediately from the kick off Llangollen switched off, which saw Bangor reply with a try of their own to level the standings.

The buoyant visitors quickly added a second converted try, but Hughes replied with two penalties to cut the gap to 13-14.

With the home pack getting on top, Llan established good field position and flanker Griffiths crossed for his second try, Hughes improving with the boot.

With the first half coming to the end Llan knocked on five metres from the try-line and that mistake proved costly as Bangor worked their way upfield to score a try, making it 20-19 to the home team at the break.

Winger Harry Paton went over early in the second half for Llan, but the home side could not push on.

Bangor rallied with two unconverted tries and a penalty to seal the game.

Try-scorers for the visitors were Jonny Pym (2), Stefan Owen, Tom Yardley and Dyfed Roberts, with Nick Dundee adding two conversions and a penalty.
