Super Finn marshals defence as Llan climb from bottom

-

LLANNERCHYMEDD edged themselves away from the bottom two places in Welsh Alliance Division Two after a hard-fought 1-0 win at Aberffraw.

Llan had one of their strongest squads to choose from with the exception of Andrew Roberts and Iwan Williams missing due to illness. However, they welcomed new signings Lewis Connor and Richard Jones straight into the starting 11.

The first half began with Llan having the majority of the ball and producing some good movement but with no chances or reward to show for it.

As the half progressed, Aberffraw were getting more dangerous and carved out some decent opportunities for themselves but keeper Peter Finn was equal to them all.

The end of the first period saw the Aber stopper pull off a great save from Nick Owen, with no-one in a green shirt there to tuck away the rebound.

The only goal came just after the hour mark. A cross was delivered from the right where Tudur Williams was on hand from the edge of the box to steer his volley to the far right hand of the goal and the ball went in off the post.

The hosts now began to pile on some pressure. There was a half-decent shout for a penalty for Berffro, but play was waved on. Pressure kept mounting on ‘Medd but the excellent Finn and his defence kept things tight until the very end.

Bottom side Cemaes Bay held Amlwch Town to a 0-0 draw in a competitive derby at School Lane.

Llangefni Town were held 1-1 at home by still unbeaten Llanrug United in Division One.

Daniel Thomas levelled for the hosts in the second half after Aaron Hughes struck first.

Trearddur Bay United ended what has at times been a difficult year on a high as they saw off Mynydd Llandegai 4-1 at Lon Isallt.

Ryan Connolly (2), Craig Beech and Dave Webb provided the winners’ tally, Liam Willighan hitting back.
