FOX FOUND DEAD NEAR PACK OF HOUNDS WHO RAN LOOSE WAS HIT BY VEHICLE, SAY POLICE

-

A FOX found dead near a pack of hounds who ran loose on the A55 was hit by a vehicle, police confirmed last week.

Officers were investigating whether any crimes had been committed in relation to the incident, which happened near Gaerwen on Anglesey on Boxing Day.

Around six dogs were spotted at around 1.15pm, close to the eastbound sliproad on the A55.

All the animals were rounded up within half an hour, and police said the dogs were handed over to someone in the local area to look so that investigations could continue and the owners could be tracked down.

A police spokesman said: “Inquiries continue into the dogs being loose on the A55.

“But police can confirm the fox died after being struck by a vehicle.”

Speaking after the incident, Anglesey’s Chief Inspector Mark Armstrong said: “Local and Roads Policing Officers were quickly on the scene and fortunately the dogs’ presence close to the A55 caused no collisions, and within 30 minutes of the call the dogs were recovered and handed over to a local person.

“I’m grateful to the member of the public who made the initial call as this may well have prevented a more serious incident.”

Chief Insp Armstrong said last week: “I’m appealing to anyone who was in the area who witnessed events to contact police, particularly if they have mobile phone or dashcam footage.”
