Llangefni lose more ground on leaders

-

LLANGEFNI Town slipped to four points behind Conwy Borough in the Welsh Alliance Division One title race after drawing 1-1 with Llandudno Albion in a high tempo match at Maesdu Park last Saturday.

Cefni were made to work hard against Albion, who are now unbeaten in their last 15 matches.

Town’s Jack Williams scored with a diving header at the far post just past the hour to cancel out Daniel Evans’ opener.

The visitors started brightly and carved out the first chance of the game as Callum Mcminimee got on the ball on the right and cut inside, only for the winger to lash over the bar.

Chris Roberts’ men enjoyed the bulk of possession in the opening half, moving the ball well on the 3G pitch, but Albion were looking dangerous, especially at set pieces.

The opener came from a corner, Evans getting on the end of a half cleared ball to fire in from 12 yards.

Instant changes were made by Llangefni in search of an equaliser. These paid off 10 minutes later with substitute Craig Roberts beating his man out wide on the right, to deliver an inch-perfect cross to the oncoming Williams to secure a point.

Llangefni Town Reserves also secured a valuable point in a six-goal thriller at home to Llanrug United Reserves.

Cefni’s goals came from Aaron Rickards, Cameron Jones and Keenan Latham.

Last Wednesday saw Llangefni’s first team increase the pressure on Division One table-toppers Conwy with a 2-1 victory against Trearddur Bay United at Lon Talwrn.

Iwan Jones gave Cefni an early lead when he took on a defender before finding the bottom far corner with a low drive.

Gavin Sharpe and Craig Roberts had good chances to increase the advantage but they could not beat former Llangefni keeper Jack Roberts.

Harry Galeotti eventually made it 2-0 10 minutes into the second half when he fired a half-volley into the bottom corner after good work from Iwan Jones. Cefni should have put the game to bed but were wasteful in front of goal.

Credit to Trearddur Bay who kept going.

The visitors managed to pull a goal back in injury time through Guy Hughes after some sloppy defending by Llangefni.

Next up for Llangefni is Bar- Picture: Dai Sinclair mouth and Dyffryn away this Saturday.

Then they travel to Llandyrnog on Easter Monday.

With Conwy Borough at Nantlle Vale on Saturday, and then visiting Greenfield on Monday, it is another big weekend in the battle to land the Division One crown.
