Llanfair to join coast top flight

LLANFAIRPW­LL are set to provide a fascinatin­g additional interest to the local bowls’ scene when they rejoin other premier clubs Beaumaris and Bangor City in the top flight of the North Wales Coast League.

The new season’s action will get underway this Saturday in the four divisions set-up, which comprises 46 teams, spread from west to east.

Promoted Llanfairpw­ll, captained again by Geraint Booth, will reclaim their place in Division A with enthusiasm after having stormed to the Division B championsh­ip last season and promotion along with runners-up Craig-y-Don A.

The Anglesey villagers will open their 2018 campaign of new challenges by visiting Penmaenmaw­r A.

Beaumaris A, who finished in third position in 2017 – as in 2016 – behind champions Min-y-Don and runnersup Rhos Park A, will start with a visit to Conwy A and will be led again by K Keith Bailey.

Bangor City, with Andy Price reappointe­d captain, also have an away a assignment against B Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The elite Welsh Counties’ League starts next Tuesday, April 10, with the two local flag-bearers travelling – Beaumaris, with Adam Harris as captain, going to Broughton, and Llanfairpw­ll, led by Arwel Williams, visiting Rhos Park.

The Anglesey/Bangor a and District League’s Wednesday Division will open next Wednesday, A April 11, when 2017 title kings Beaumaris A engage in a domestic derby with their own B side.
