Bangor storm into Plate final

-

BANGOR RFC stormed into the North Wales Intermediate Plate Final with a superb 41-14 win at Llangollen.

The Citizens travelled in confident mood having already won away against their opponents in Division 2 North this season.

Bangor had the advantage of the slope in the first half and made good use of it by scoring the first of six tries in the opening minutes when Dan Jones at scrum-half sniped over after fine work from the forwards.

Bangor’s eight fronted up to the big Llangollen pack and the backs were finding gaps to exploit, putting pressure on the home back three.

The forwards advanced with some good support play and the next two tries were delivered by the pack with No 8 Gruff Tudur and Tom Yardley both going over.

From the restart Bangor gathered, got the ball wide and the next two tries went to centre Calvin Williams and wing Sion Davies.

Llangollen eventually put some phases together and using their heavy pack rolled over for a converted score.

The half ended with five tries, plus three conversions from Cameron Owen, making it 31-7 to the visitors.

With the slope now in their favour, Llangollen were keen to press on and used their pack more effectively.

They notched another converted try within 10 minutes of the restart but despite all their territory and possession, failed to add to it.

When Bangor did break out of defence they took points with a penalty from Owen.

And it was the travellers who bagged the final try when they advanced out of their 22 and Owen went over for a touchdown he converted himself.

Bangor will play Newtown in the final. ANGLESEY YOUTH AND JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE SCORES (MARCH 31)
