EASTER EGG CLAPPING
Villages across island help to keep up long tradition:
ANGLESEY villagers were out in full force to clap for Easter eggs, receiving a warm welcome in homes at Llannerch-y-Medd, Carreglefn, Brynsiencyn, Talwrn and Llynfaes in the week before Easter. Following local tradition and armed with a wooden clapper each, the children went around singing at doors in the neighbourhood to receive a range of delicious chocolate Easter eggs - unlike the hens’ eggs their grandparents would have received.
On behalf of Menter Iaith Môn, Hanna Huws said: “It’s brilliant to see families getting together before Easter to clap for eggs, thereby also supporting the local community spirit and keeping the Welsh language and traditions alive locally.
“The event’s success is due to the kindness of all those who share out eggs as well as the enthusiasm of community groups such as Cylch Meithrin at Llannerch-yMedd, the school at Carreglefn, individuals at Brynsiencyn, Cylch Meithrin at Talwrn, and the Memorial Hall committee at Llynfaes.
“By supporting communities and families, Menter Iaith Môn can support the Welsh language in its stronghold, ensuring that families from all linguistic backgrounds have access and enjoy activities in Welsh.”
