Seventh defeat in succession for Holyhead

-

HOLYHEAD Hotspur’s wretched run of form stretched to a seventh straight defeat as they crashed 5-0 at home to Airbus UK Broughton last Saturday.

And there was no immediate chance for Campbell Harrison’s side to turn the tide with Easter Monday’s Huws Gray Cup tie at Guilsfield called off due to the weather.

The Wingmakers were two goals to the good at half-time courtesy of Leo Riley and Ryan Edwards, and a penalty from Nathan Quirk on 53 minutes made it three.

On the hour Riley received a straight red card which gave the hosts a slight hope for a revival, but second-placed Airbus added two more before the end through sub James Hooper.

Hotspur had their opportunities, Alex Boss missing a gilt-edged chance at 1-0, and the hosts then had what seemed a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside.

Llangefni Town suffered another blow in their Welsh Alliance Division One title quest when they lost 3-2 at Llandyrnog United on Easter Monday.

That leaves Cefni three points behind leaders Conwy Borough with six games apiece left.

Mark Roberts (2) and Les Brophy won it for Dyrny, James Saxon and Jack Williams responding for the islanders.

Anglesey League Megan Cup semi-final action saw Bryngwran Bulls triumph 5-2 at Mynydd Tigers.

James Ryan notched a hat-trick, Andrew Bailey and Dylan Jones one apiece for the winners..

The other scheduled semi-final between Caergybi and Arriva was postponed.

In the league, leaders Valley’s trip to Bodorgan was subject to a late cancellation.

The wet weather wiped out the rest of the local football programme on Easter Monday.
