Bod making late charge for honours

-

IN-FORM Bodedern Athletic made it four wins in nine days as they kept alive their outside hopes of Welsh Alliance Division Two title success with a 3-1 win over Meliden.

Shaun Jenkins, Gareth Torr and Steven Whittaker’s 29th goal of the season booked the points for Boded, who completed a fifth straight victory last Saturday.

Two days earlier, Athletic prevailed 3-0 at Llanfairpwll, Ricky Jones, Jenkins and Jamie Pasquill with the goals.

Whittaker was in stunning touch last Tuesday when pocketing a hat-trick in a 5-0 home victory against Gaerwen, Ricky Jones and Ryan Taylor also on the mark.

Boded’s busy run of fixtures was due to continue last night (Tuesday) at home to Llanfairpwll, with a trip to Llannerchymedd to follow tomorrow.

Currently third, Ricky Williams’ side are 16 points behind leaders Glan Conwy but have eight games in hand, while they have played two matches less than second-placed Prestatyn Sports, who they trail by eight points.

Also in Division Two last Saturday, Ryan Wood’s net-finder secured Pentraeth a 1-0 decision at Aberffraw, Llanfairpwll crashed 5-1 at home to Blaenau Amateurs, Phil McGrath striking first for the islanders, while Richard Jones grabbed a consolation for Llannerchymedd in a 3-1 reverse at Penmaenmawr.

Craig Whelan’s eighth-minute goal earned Mynydd Llandegai a 1-1 draw at Greenfield.

Trearddur Bay United lost 4-3 in extra time at Llandyrnog United in the Mawddach Cup, Dylan Roberts (2) and Steve Driedyk running the visitors close. Guy Hughes, Craig Moore and Sean O’Toole sealed Bay United a 3-1 victory at Pentraeth in the same cup last week.
