Five-star Bangor climb after fifth win in row

- PWDL F APts

BANGOR City moved up to fourth in the North Wales Women’s Football League after a fifth straight win in the shape of a 5-0 thrashing of visitors Kinmel Bay.

Both sides battled hard for supremacy before City took the lead when excellent build-up play around the edge of the box saw Angharad Evans find space and fire a superb strike into the roof of the net.

The Citizens took the intensity level up another notch, pressing Kinmel high up the pitch and then looking to move the ball quickly.

Lexi Crawley nearly doubled the home total as she brought the ball down on her chest and crashed a volley against the crossbar.

A second goal was not long in coming as Shannon Jones pressurised Bay in their own half, winning the ball before running free and slotting home putting Bangor 2-0 up at the break.

The second half saw Bangor come out strongly, determined to put the game to bed and not give the opposition any chance of a comeback.

The hosts were playing some excellent football, moving the ball around confidently and always looking to get on the front foot.

City attacked the high ball well in the middle with Tash Matthews and Shannon Jones outstanding centrally. The pair won the first balls, harrying the visitors and not letting them get a foothold.

This endeavour soon paid off as excellent work by Ceri Lois on the halfway line saw her dispossess a defender before running clear and firing past the keeper to make it 3-0,

An excellent defensive display saw Bangor deal with periods of opposition pressure with relative comfort, denying them time and space while staying strong in one-on-ones.

Crawley made it 4-0 with a fine solo effort, picking the ball up on the edge of the box and beating three defenders before slotting into the corner.

Bangor rounded off the scoring as Paige Musgrave fed a great ball behind the defence for Ceri Lois, who held off the first challenge before beating two defenders in the box to fire home and grab a brace, making it 23 this season.

Player of the Match was Shannon Jones.

Amlwch Town went down 4-0 at leaders Northop Hall, but deserved praise for an excellent defensive effort against free-scoring hosts.
