Brewerton testimonial a reminder of why we love football

-

FRIDAY night’s James Brewerton testimonial provided the reason to remind yourself why you developed an interest in football – the sport is all about people.

The crowd may have been lower than hoped, but it was still nice to see people that you hadn’t seen in while, and that includes some of the fans that turned up.

It was really nice to relive the good old days.

Johnno in defence, Morley looking cool, calm and collected in the middle of the pitch, Hoy tearing down one wing and Sion the other.

We even lost heavily in Rhyl!

It wasn’t just seeing the players once again, it was the fact they were happy to be there.

You could see that in the smiles that followed the supportive comments from the crowd.

You could see it in the way that Johnno came over to say hello to Linda, Vera and Diane after the match; there was a lot of obvious affection in the greetings. That’s the effect that football has on people, that’s the effect that our club has on people.

The travails of the last few weeks could cause people to forget the simple appeal of football but Friday reacquainted us with the great things that connect people with Bangor City.

To put it simply our club means a lot to people and it’s for this reason that we will prevail in the end; our club will always exist because it means so much to so many.

The vicissitudes of fate are akin to the waves of a stormy sea on life’s ferry journey.

At some point the forceful waves will subside and we shall once again luxuriate under an azure sky of the deepest summer, until the choppy waters return again of course. We will prevail.
