Champions too strong as Llangefni put to sword by Pwll

-

A SIZEABLE crowd at Cae Smyrna saw Llangefni outscored 59-35 by North Wales Division One champions Pwllheli last Saturday.

Pwll’s sluggish start was due in no small measure to the excellent ball carrying of the Cefni pack, with Sam Jones, Rhodri Owen, Dion Oliver, Will Bown, Ieuan Evans and Aaron Jeffreys to the fore.

Their driving play led to a three-pointer from Carwyn Milburn.

However, when Cefni failed to deal with the restart, Nick Butterworth broke into the 22 and fed flanker Caron Jones, who cruised over in the corner.

Cefni resumed their siege of the Pwll line and when they got quick ball from a scrum, Milburn fed Ioan Jones on a good angle.

The latter offloaded to co-centre Rich Foulkes, who waltzed over near the posts. Milburn made it 10-5 and soon added another fine penalty.

Disastrously for Llangefni, they again messed up the restart and John Pugh was able to race over in the corner.

After another Butterworth break, the ball was moved right where Osian Parry Jones crossed wide out. His extras made it 17-13. Mathew Parry then released Pugh for his second try, Parry Jones converting Milburn’s boot narrowed the gap, but the hosts were guilty of some poor handling which gifted Pwll scrum ball.

Their quick release allowed Pugh to sprint down the middle and No8 Tom Parry was in support to cross at the posts.

Cefni hit back with a fine forwards try. Milburn’s extras made it 31-23 Pwll at the break.

Soon after the restart, Pugh`s pace took Pwllheli to within 10 metres, then hooker Kevin Morris forced himself over.

Centre Geraint Wil- liams ran a great angle to dot down at the posts, the conversion making it 45-23.

Cefni responded when prop Ynyr Jones squeezed in at the flag, Milburn converting superbly from the touchline.

Parry and Pugh hit back with tries, Parry Jones’ accurate kicking making it 59-30.

Cefni had the last score when a charge down enabled Carwyn Owen to sprint over from halfway.

This Saturday sees Llangefni travel to title favourites Nant Conwy for their last game of the season.
