Boded are happy to Take Stock

-

BODEDERN Athletic bounced back from successive league defeats in style by reaching the Take Stock Van Hire Cup Final with a 1-0 win over Prestatyn Sports.

Odds on to win the Welsh Alliance Division Two title, table-toppers Sports arrived at Cae Ty Cristion as favourites, but ended up beaten by an 87th minute penalty from top scorer Steven Whittaker, who made it 34 goals for the season.

Boded will now meet Mochdre Sports in the final at Conwy on Wednesday, May 23 (7.30pm).

Before that, Athletic need five points from their remaining four league games to clinch runners-up spot in Division Two.

They are due to visit Take Stock Van Hire Final opponents Mochdre Sports tomorrow (Thursday), then host Blaenau Amateurs this Saturday before visiting Llannefydd on May 19 and welcoming Pentraeth on May 22.

To finish second and lift the divisional cup would make it a fantastic season for Boded and their boss Ricky Williams, who was announced as Division Two Manager of the Month for April last week.

Last Saturday’s Welsh Alliance action brought mainly gloomy fortunes for Anglesey teams.

Luke McGivern’s strike earned Amlwch Town a 1-1 draw at Llannefydd in Division Two, while a Nathan Moore double proved a mere consolation as Aberffraw crashed 6-2 at Blaenau.

Trearddur Bay United went down 3-0 at home to in-form Greenfield in Division One.

Amlwch’s fine end to the campaign continued last week with a pair of wins.

Dewi Thomas, Tom Rowlands and Gethin Roberts struck for Town in a 3-1 triumph at Pentraeth, who replied through Owain Roberts, last Thursday.

Two nights earlier, Amlwch came out on top in another island derby, beating Llannerchymedd 2-0 at Lon Bach with Tom Rowlands and Dewi Thomas on target.

Lee Ellis scored the only goal as Penmaenmawr Phoenix pipped Bodedern 1-0 and Pentraeth were defeated 4-2 at home by Blaenau Amateurs.
