£100m resort plan reliant on Welsh Govt cash say developers

-

THE developers behind the £100m Anglesey holiday resort will bid for Welsh Government tourism cash while the UK Government is set to promote the project to overseas investors.

Holiday firm Bluestone has struck a deal with Land & Lakes which will see both parties work together to develop Bluestone Holy Island Resort Ynys MÔn.

Covering 200 acres of land on the Penrhos Estate, it’s hoped around 200,000 visitors a year will be attracted to the luxury resort.

Richard Sidi, chief executive for Land and Lakes, said they were delighted to find the “right” partner for the project, set to open in 2021 and employ 900 peo- ple. But he said there was work to be done to ensure the development - which has outline planning permission – moves ahead as planned.

He said they would be bidding for Welsh Government funding support, which he said would be crucial in developing the scheme.

It was also revealed that the holiday park will be one of 68 UK projects that the Department for International Trade is promoting to overseas investors.

Mr Sidi said: “There have been several companies wanting to partner with us on this site but we felt Bluestone were the right partner, they share the same philosophy as us for this site and we will now work together. “This is a jewel of a site. “There is still a lot to do. We will be asking Welsh Government for support, this will be reliant on tourism funding but we are hopeful of this. We hope to have detailed plans submitted to Anglesey council over the next six to nine months and to start construction later next year.”

Meanwhile the UK Government’s International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox has revealed the project will be promoted through a revamped online one stop shop for potential foreign investors.

Secretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns said: “Bluestone’s venture in North Wales is just one of the many projects being primed for international investment here in Wales. And the UK Government is wholly commitment to creating the conditions to make these deals happen.”

Mr Sidi also said Land and Lakes remained committed to developing the Cae Glas and Kingsland sites at Holyhead for Wylfa Newydd workers and as local housing.

Horizon Nuclear Power does not have the Land and Lakes site on its preferred accommodation locations - with a preference for most workers to be based close to the proposed nuclear build outside Cemaes.
