Help to keep Blood Bikes Wales on road
FUNDRAISING events are being held in memory of a much loved Llanfairfechan man whose life was tragically cut short by cancer.
Cedric Thomas died aged 56 in February 2017 after a brave battle with the disease.
His family and friends now plan to come together and celebrate his life while raising vital funds for Blood Bikes Wales, a charity he had strong links with as a result of his passion for motorbikes.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board use the life-saving service to quickly transport items such as blood platelets, specialist medical equipment and breast milk for premature babies between its hospitals.
The charity relies on the dedi- cation of its volunteers and the generosity of the general public to keep its bikes on the road. Blood Bikes Wales estimates that for every £1 donated the NHS will save between £5 and £15.
Mr Thomas’ love of motor- bikes saw him become a passionate supporter of Blood Bikes Wales.
He was an active member of the Beicwyr Llŷn Bikers, a group of North Wales motor biking enthusiasts who have raised tens of thousands of pounds for local good causes, including Blood Bikes Wales during the year he passed away.
The first fundraising event saw an evening of music and prizes held at Llanfairfechan Sailing Club, featuring live bands and a raffle with prizes generously donated by local business.
The second, a treasure hunt by car and motorcycle between Llanfairfechan and Bangor, will be held on June 10th followed by a quiz at the Sailing Club.
The events are being organised by Kate Ingham with support from Mr Thomas’ late wife, Nia, who both work for BCUHB’s Complex Needs Service for people with learning disabilities at Bryn y Neuadd Hospital, Llanfairfechan.
Kate said: “Cedric was a hugely popular and charismatic member of the community and his death has broken the village in a way.
“We hope the fundraising events will provide a good opportunity to bring everyone together to celebrate his life.
“He was really passionate about the Blood Bikes Wales and money raised at his funeral has already made a big difference to their work.
“As well as raising money for Blood Bikes Wales we hope to raise awareness of the crucial work its volunteers do.”
