BANGOR TOP WITH MAXIMUM AT CONNAH’S QUAY

CHAMPIONS Bangor claimed top spot in the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division with a maximum points victory at Connah’s Quay.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Citizens amassed 250-6 off 50 overs, David Winter top-scoring with 86, skipper Robert Marshall finishing 67 not out.

Winter and Sion Evans (22) put on 62 for the first wicket.

Quay were bowled out for 103, despite a defiant 52 from Scott Adams. Matt Kelly scooped 4-53 and Gareth W Edwards 3-23 for the visitors in a 15-0 outcome.

Unbeaten Menai Bridge lie second, just a point behind Bangor with a game in hand, after stuttering to victory in a lowscoring affair at Chirk.

The hosts chose to bat first but were rolled over for just 52, Gethin Roberts grabbing 5-25 and Gerallt Roberts 4-13 for the Anglesey side.

Menai found the going anything but easy in reply, managing to reach 57 for the loss of five wickets in 13.3 overs to secure a 12-3 points verdict.

Bridge’s top five were all dismissed for single figures, Andrew Swarbrick claiming a brilliant return of 5-13 off seven overs.

Bodedern lost heavily at Carmel and District in the 1st XI Second Division.

Ten-man Boded opted for first knock but were bowled out for just 88, only Matthew Jackson making any impression with 24.

Carmel then coasted to 91-1 for a 14-1 triumph.

In the 2nd XI Premier Division, Menai Bridge cruised to a seven-wicket success over visitors Carmel seconds.

Fielding just seven players, the away side mus- tered 127-6, then Bridge reached 128-3 off 22.1 overs, Phil Smith leading the way with 72 in a 13-2 verdict.

Bangor lost by 52 runs at home to Brymbo.

The travellers set 168-9, Subhan Khan impressing with 4-28 for the Citizens, who were then sent packing for 116, Peter Jones 48 not out, in a 13-2 loss.
