Bangor leave it late before sealing triumph

BANGOR CITY pulled off a dramatic 9-3 victory over Beaumaris ‘A’ in the North Wales Coast Bowls League’s Division ‘A’.

City held a 5-3 lead in games but trailed by 20 in the aggregates, only for their last two members to turn up trumps.

John Short and Gwerydd Buckland both won 21-8 as the games haul rose to 7-3 and the aggregates transforme­d to 174-154. Bangor youngster Ryan Short recorded the day’s best (21-6), Hefin Jones (21-8) and Barry Harris (21-9) shone for Beaumaris.

Llanfairpw­ll lost 9-3 to leaders Llanrwst A. beaten 8-2 at Coed Talon.

Eric Whitworth Cup holders Llangefni beat Llanfairpw­ll by just a single point at the start of their defence of the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Monday Division knockout.

Llangefni’s Derwent Taylor won 21-5 and Llanfairpw­ll’s Dion Owen recorded a 21-6 success.

Trophy holders Llanfairpw­ll swept into the Festival Cup semi-finals of the Anglesey/Bangor & District League’s Wednesday Division knockout by outperform­ing Criccieth 153-114, Geraint Booth (213) and John Evans (21-8).

Gwynedd Cup holders Beaumaris ‘A’ suffered a shock early knockout when they lost by 14 points to Conwy.

Beaumaris ‘A’ continued as early leaders of the Gwynedd Seniors’ League – albeit by a single point – after they won at Conwy 7-2.
