Bridge hit out to hit top

MENAI BRIDGE stormed to the summit of the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division last Saturday with a maximum points caning of Llandudno at Tyn-y-Caeau.

Choosing to bat first, the Anglesey side amassed 289-6 off 50 overs, Jack Gower (53) and Arwel Thomas (40) starting things off well with an opening stand of 89.

Skipper Dion Holden made 27 before Robbie Jones struck 61 and Gethin Roberts 79 not out from 62 deliveries, including seven fours and four sixes, in a terrific partnershi­p of 127 for the fourth wicket.

Gerallt Roberts then collected 5-29 and Gethin Roberts 2-26 as an understren­gth Tudno were sent packing for just 100.

This Saturday sees Bangor return to action at home to Denbigh, while Menai visit Connah’s Quay.

Bethesda lost by four wickets at home to Abergele in the First XI First Division.

Carwyn Williams topscored with 46 as Pesda were dismissed for 187, Gareth V Edwards adding 34 and Matthew Harrington 33.

Gele replied with 191-6 for an 11-4 points split.

Bodedern edged a thriller at home to Buckley by just four runs.

Winning the toss and electing to bat in this First XI Second Division encounter, the Anglesey side set 161-8, opener Nathan Goodright doing best with 49.

In response, Bucks were bowled out for 157, Blake Thomas dismissing four of the top five batsmen in claiming 4-32, Jordan Taylor collecting 3-27 and Bryn Hughes 2-42 in an 11-4 success.
