THE devastated family of a biker killed in a crash have paid tribute to the “wonderful husband and father”.

Gareth Wyn Roberts was riding his motorbike on Lôn Sant Ffraid in Trearddur Bay last Wednesday when he was involved in a collision with a Ford Focus car.

The 53-year-old, known as “Gonk” to friends, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Roberts, who was born and bred in Holyhead, worked as a teaching assistant at Ysgol y Bont in Llangefni.

The dad-of-two was a keen guitarist and drummer and “thoroughly enjoyed” playing in his band, Section 3, with friends.

Jemma, his wife, said: “I can’t believe the shock I’ve had.

“Gareth always had a happy outlook on life and had a large circle of friends. The boys and I are grateful for the support we’ve had and respectfully ask for privacy to come to terms with our devastating loss.”

Friends of Mr Roberts have described him as a “true gent” who “always had a smile on his face”.

Tributes to him have flooded in on his Facebook page.

Dion Williams wrote: “It was such an honour to have worked with you over the past few years. What can I say mate, you will be missed more than words can say. You were a true gent. Nobody had a bad word to say about you. A true friend and colleague taken away from us too early. Cwsg yn dawel Gareth ‘Gonk’ Roberts

“Never forgotten and always in our hearts.”

Ceri Marie Hughes said: “Life’s too cruel. There will be so many lost without you Monday morning. Make sure you rock the heavens, rest in peace and thinking of all your family xxx.”

Cari Wynn posted: “Such a genuine, happy and friendly man who always had a smile on his face and always able to put a smile on others. I’m glad I had the pleasure to work with you Gareth. My thoughts are with family, friends and everyone from CAYB at this very sad time”

Davy Greenough said: “Absolutely gutted to hear you’re gone dude. Always a gent, always up for a chat and always up for a laugh. Through music you inspired many young musicians, and through just being you, you inspired everyone through meeting you and those you worked with – we all looked up to you. You’ll be sadly missed Gonk. Keep on rocking that great gig in the sky!!”

Police are continuing to investigate the crash which happened at 11.30am on Wednesday.

Sergeant Raymond Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Sadly we are now investigating this as a fatal road traffic collision and our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this sad time.

“We are appealing for any witnesses to make contact with us as soon as possible to help with the investigation.”
