‘He can stick his merger plan for island in the bin’
when addressing a meeting of the Welsh Local Government Assoc– iation recently.
Echoing their sentiments was opposition independent leader, Cllr Bryan Owen, who said: “Alun Davies says that there’s a lack of vision.
“But, if we’re talking about vision, why hasn’t the Welsh Government done anything about transport?
“It took 4½hours to get to Cardiff 20 years ago and it still takes 4½ hours today.
“They made a mess of the health boards.
“The economic future of this island is looking brighter, things are starting to come together with Wylfa Newydd and Bluestone.
“Is there any advantage to us merging with Gwynedd?
“Do they have anything to offer us? I can’t see the benefits.
“We’re fine as we are, thank you. The First Minister needs to stick his green paper in the bin where it belongs.”
Cllr Aled Morris Jones believed that more powers should be devolved to authorities before being shared out to community councils.
“Local is not Amlwch to Aberdyfi, it makes no sense at all, “he said.
Cllr Medi concluded: “Being able to stand in this chamber and have a mature debate shows the journey we’ve taken as a council.
“The Welsh Government needs to leave us alone now; reorganisation for reorganisation’s sake is no good to anyone.
“All six North Wales council leaders are agreed on this.”
