Bridge are on right road at top of league

NORTH Wales Cricket League Premier Division table-toppers Menai Bridge will take their unbeaten record on the road to Hawarden Park this Saturday.

The Anglesey side stretched their lead to 16 points last weekend with a 78-run victory over Brymbo.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat at Tyn-y-Caeau, the Bridge were bowled out for 200 in 48 overs, Luke Jones (35) and Gethin Long (33) the topscorers. The Steelmen were 77-2 in reply before being dismissed for 122. Gerallt Roberts claimed 3-20 and Ashley Wood 3-21 for the Anglesey side, who triumphed 14-1 on points.

Bangor lie second after a comfortabl­e seven-wicket win at Chirk. The hosts opted for first knock and openers Stevie Kelshaw (47) and Chris Pritchard (47) put on 98 for the opening wicket. Bangor’s bowlers then got on top and Chirk were eventually all out for 185. Chris Dawson was star performer of the Citizens attack with 4-14 off 7.2. Bangor reached a winning 186-3 off 36.3 overs, skipper Robert Marshall finishing 45 not out, Nadeem Rehman adding 42 and Sion Evans 36 in a 13-2 success. This Saturday second-place Bangor are home to St Asaph. Both sides are on 76 points.

Next-to-bottom Bodedern romped to an impressive ninewicket (14-1) triumph at Marchwiel and Wrexham in the 1st XI Second Division. After deciding to field, the Anglesey side dismissed the hosts for 133, Danny Williams collecting an outstand- ing 5-14 off seven overs. Boded then coasted to 134-1 from 31.3, Bryn Hughes (51) and Martin Roberts (58 not out) putting on an opening stand of 110.

Bangor seconds imposed a maximum points thrashing on Carmel in the 2nd XI Premier Division. Nigel Barry (75), Peter Jones (41 no) and Ali Zaidi (35) helped the Citizens post 223-5 off 45 overs. Carmel were then rolled over for 90, Subhan Khan 3-23, Owen Jones 2-14 and Ethan Ray 2-19. Menai Bridge seconds also dished out a 15-0 caning at Llay Welfare seconds. James Jones (54), Dion Jones (50), Callum Andrews (35) and Chris Williams (33) all made fine scores as Bridge amassed 270-9 and Daniel Surgey then scooped 3-28 and Andrews 2-2 as eight-man Llay were limited to 99-7.
