Happy to be in the Dog House

-

LAST year Darryl Gallagher set up a local kickboxing and fitness centre in the heart of Bangor.

The aim was to help local youngsters train in the art of kickboxing.

As an 18-time world kickboxing champion himself, Gallagher had to travel to Liverpool four times a week to train at the world-famous Mushin Kai Club under the guidance of the renowned Alfie Lewis.

So he opened the new Dog House Kickboxing Club in Bangor High Street and the response has been overwhelming, with classes held most nights and attendance figures increasing weekly.

Club members have taken part in various competitions in the UK and two Bangor-born 14 year-olds have qualified to compete at the World Championships in Portugal in September to represent Wales.

Jack Jones (British and European champion) and Billy Jones, both pupils of Ysgol Tryfan, have been friends since primary school and are training extremely hard for the competition.

The club, along with their families and friends, are busy fund-raising to help the boys get to Portugal.

The aim is to raise a total of £1,000 to help pay their kit, registration fees and accommodation at the tournament.

Anyone who can help can log on to the club’s Facebook page, or call Darryl on 07790 672150.
