City Bang on for Craig

SEVENTEEN Cybi Striders made the short trip to Deiniolen for the annual 10k race.

Described as one of the toughest of its kind in the country, it also served as the fourth event in this year’s club championsh­ip for the Striders.

First Cybi member home was Irfon Rowlands in 41:05 (1st V50), followed by Peter Jones 43:09, Chris Thomas 43:12, Alan Radbourne 43:33, Kevin Clark 44:06, James Hooton 44:47, Dyfnallt Huws 49:36, Darren Seeney 50:49, Dewi Williams 50:52, Sion Roberts 50:53, Paul Maitland 52:24, Alwyn Williams 54:51

First Cybi lady was Rhi Willmot in 48:27, followed by Hannah McPartland 50:03, Elen Haf Jones 50:42, Sian Ellis 51:41, Josie Rhisiart 55:23.

Cybi Striders runners Nigel and Diane Holmes competed in Tromso in Norway for the Midnight Half Marathon.

Nigel finished in 1:14:22 and fifth in age group, while Diane clocked a PB 1:53:16 and first AC.

BANGOR CITY beat Craig-y-Don A 8-4 on their own green to celebrate only their second away triumph in the North Wales Coast Bowls League Division A.

Kevin Bebbington and Ryan Short were the top performers for the Citizens, both winning 21-5. Beaumaris A were walloped 10-2 at leaders Llanrwst A, while Llanfairpw­ll were denied an outing to Blaenau Ffestiniog, where the green was waterlogge­d.

Division B: Caernarfon P Bethesda P; St Asaph A 9 Benllech 3 (Pat Graham 21-9). Division C: Beaumaris B 12 (Daniel Owen 21-3, Brian Begley 21-5) Sunny Rhyl 0; Eirias Park 7 Holyhead 5.

In the Welsh Counties’ League, bottom side Llanfairpw­ll turned the tables on top-half local rivals Beaumaris by dominating the derby clash 7-3.

Gwilym Roberts did best for Llanfair on 21-8, with Geraint Booth 21-11, whereas Beaumaris’ Keith Bailey’s card showed 21-9.

Llangefni regained top spot in the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Monday Division after a 6-4 (131-117) close call at lowly-placed Caernarfon.

Geraint Williams led the way for Llangefni with 21-5. Other results: Beaumaris 7 (pairs: Arfon Jones and Dave Mathias 21-7) Bangor City 3, Benllech 8 (Gareth Jones 21-6) Academi Llanfair 2, Llanfairpw­ll 8 ( John Evans 21-3) Criccieth 2, Menai Bridge 4 Holyhead 6 (Dan Rossington 21-5).

Beaumaris A and B, finished as winners in the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Wednesday Division.

The A side looked the part as division leaders in an 8-2 show of strength at Benllech, Barry Harris 21-5.

Beaumaris B made it 6-4 on their own Castle green against Bethesda, Derek Roberts 21-9 for the visitors.

Holyhead triumphed 8-2 over Criccieth, Dan Rossington at 21-8 and Ian Black 21-9.

The division’s Festival Cup semi-finals are this evening (Wednesday): Beaumaris A v Benllech, at Bethesda, and Bethesda v holders Llanfairpw­ll, at Benllech.

Llanfairpw­ll were the most convincing winners in the Gwynedd Cup’s second round ties, as they piled up a 53 points command over Criccieth.

The villagers’ opponents in the semifinals, on Thursday, July 5, will be Bethesda, who accounted for Beaumaris B by 19 points.

Bangor City tumbled to a 10 points’ defeat at Blaenau Ffestiniog, who can now anticipate a last-four clash with Llanrwst.

Beaumaris A have been joined by Craig-y-Don A on the same number of points as leaders of the Gwynedd Seniors’ League, after the latest set of matches in which the Castle side secured an expected 7-2 result over Llandudno B. David T Evans was top block for the hosts at 21-4, while Craig-y-Don A went one better with an 8-1 spree at Benllech.

In the final of the Anglesey/Bangor and District Bowls League’s annual pairs, Keith Bailey (Beaumaris) and Dave Jones (Bangor City and Beaumaris) beat Gary Buckland (Bangor City) and Stuart Thomas (Beaumaris) 21-13.
