MURDERER DIES IN JAIL

Inquiry launched after 54-yr-old convicted of killing wife found dead weeks into life sentence:

- Paul Jordan, convicted in May of killing his wife Elizabeth Jordan, has been found dead in Altcourse prison

AMAN jailed for murdering his estranged wife has been found dead in prison.

Paul Martin Jordan was found guilty in May of killing Elizabeth Jordan and was ordered to serve a minimum of 14 years before being eligible for parole.

But the Ministry of Justice has confirmed the 54-year-old was found dead in custody on Friday.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “HMP Altcourse prisoner Paul Martin Jordan died in custody on 6 July 2018.

“As with all deaths in custody, there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”

Jordan had denied murdering the 53-year-old mum of two at her home in Trem y Garnedd in Maesgeirchen on July 31 last year. Mrs Jordan, known as Betty, was pronounced dead in hospital after being found seriously injured in her bedroom.

A pathologist said she died of a single stab wound, delivered with “moderate force” to the upper chest which penetrated the left lung and the heart.

Jordan (pictured), a 54-yearold BT worker, admitted manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility but was convicted of murder by a jury after a six-day trial.

At the sentence hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court, their children Paul and Clare read victim personal statements in which they described their mother as an “amazing parent whose smile could fill a room in an instant”.

Jailing Jordan, Judge Rhys Rowlands said: “I accept the murder has cast a great shadow over all the family and I am keenly aware that nothing I can say, or sentence I pass, will adequately reflect their loss or the value of their late mother’s life.”
