City aces score pre-season hat-trick of wins
BANGOR City could feel more than satisfied after their first three pre-season ties ended in wins.
The opposition was modest, all playing at a lower level than the Citizens, but a winning habit is a healthy one.
After kicking off with a 2-0 success at Pwllheli last Monday to land the inaugural T G Jones Trophy, City triumphed 3-1 at Brickfield Rangers on Friday, before a young Bangor outfit claimed a 5-0 victory at Penycae on Saturday.
That made it a trio of victories, 10 goals netted and just one conceded, 37 players used and no injuries.
Craig Harrison’s side were expecting a much tougher test last night (Tuesday) when National League side Wrexham were due to be the first close-season visitors to Nantporth.
Trialists Jacob Farleigh and Elliott Fenton were on the mark in the win at Welsh Alliance Division Two opponents Pwllheli. Fenton plays Futsal for England Under-18s, while Farleigh has had a spell at The New Saints. Another trialist on show was former Wrexham and England C keeper Andy Coughlin.
After a goal-less first half, Farleigh drilled home City’s opener in the 48th minute. The win was sealed when a great run and cross from Alex Boss was finished off by Fenton.
Bangor had a nasty shock at Brickfield on Friday when the Welsh National League Premier Division side, managed by City 2010-11 Welsh Premier titlewinning hero Nicky Ward, grabbed a fifth-minute lead.
The visitors created several chances before a cutback from Les Davies enabled Robbie Parry to tap-in the leveller on 34 minutes.
City made lots of changes for the second half, and their pressure eventually told when Yalany Baio made it 2-1, lashing into the roof of the net. Farleigh added a third after fine work from trialist Sam Dool.
A youthful Bangor team eased to a 5-0 triumph at WNL Premier team Penycae, Sam Jones (2, 1 pen), Fenton, trialist Liam Chambers and Dylan Summers-Jones all on target.
